The identity of objects, situations and people become fluid and the unpredictable reality we have tried to write rewrites itself.

Hights

Inbal Pinto, founder of the renowned Inbal Pinto Dance Company in Israel

A masterpiece, this time only to be staged at SIDC

In 1992, Inbal Pinto founded a dance company in her own name. Over the course of several decades, her works have garnered numerous awards, with Dio-Can and Wrapped standing as iconic milestones in the dance history in Israel, receiving widespread acclaim on a global scale. Inbal Pinto Dance Company, alongside Batsheva Dance Company and Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, has cemented its status as one of the three renowned dance companies in Israel.

Starting in 2002, Pinto collaborated with choreographer Avshalom Pollak and established a new dance company.

In 2018, Inbal Pinto departed from the company and continued her journey as an independent artist.

As a versatile artist, Inbal Pinto took on multiple roles in Living Room including choreographer, costume design, and stage design, overseeing all the paintings on the wall, flawlessly encapsulating the essence of the “Inbal aesthetic.”

One table, one chair, a single lamp, and a solitary wall – everything can lead you to a dance.

Two gifted dancers and a living room beckon you to enter the realm of imagination.

What adorns your living room? Tables, chairs, lamps, and walls.

In this work, Inbar Pinto brings to life an ordinary Israeli living room on the stage filled with elements of the bizarre and the dreamlike.

A lone female dancer, facing the wall, becomes increasingly fascinated by her surroundings and the objects within, as if everything were poised to dance with her. She dances with the table, the chair, the wall, and an apparition that shows up in her mind. Through her dance, we immerse ourselves in a world of whimsy and imagination.

Delightfully whimsical, they present genius creativity through their captivating bodily expressions.

Dance with imagination. This is everyone’s “daydream.”

Much like children stepping into Narnia when they open the wardrobe or wizards passing through Platform Nine and Three-Quarters to enter the realm of magic, the mastery of these works lie in their ability to open a window in reality that allows the light of imagination to shine through.

As a maestro of choreography, Inbar Pinto consistently plays with the elements of humor, fantasy, and even childlike wonder. In this work, she has pushed her creativity even further, unveiling the awe-inspiring depths of her mastery within the confines of a modest living room.

At the beginning of the performance, the female dancer teeters on the edge of slumber, blurring the lines between wakefulness and dreams. Throughout the entire show, it feels as if the whole space of theater has crafted a whimsical daydream for each and every member of the audience.

Unveiling the unexpectedness of everyday life

Diving into the connections among people, environments, and objects

Through stage design, props, and lighting effects, a fantastical and dreamlike world is conjured. Audiences witness the transformation of their daily life at home into something with fresh meaning and boundless imagination. Furniture, objects, and spaces take on a vibrant and sentient quality, as if infused with emotions and vitality of their own.

The dancers’ interaction with their surroundings unfolds a nuanced and intricate relationship, prompting audience to reevaluate the details and environments of their everyday life.
